New Zealand felt really sad because they got knocked out of the tournament. However, Mitchell's batting during the game showed a lot of determination and courage.
Kane Williamson, a famous cricket player, thinks Daryl Mitchell is an amazing competitor. People who know him from Northern Districts and New Zealand really admire him for his strong spirit.
Daryl Mitchell is a quiet and friendly person who doesn't let praise make him big-headed. Even though his father is a famous rugby coach, Daryl wasn't sure if he could be a great cricket player for the Black Caps until a few years ago.
But in a recent game against India, he scored a lot of runs - 134 in total - and almost helped his team win. Unfortunately, he got cramps and felt tired during the game.
Even though New Zealand lost the match and had to leave the tournament, Mitchell played with a lot of determination and courage.
He felt sad about not winning and said, "I thought maybe with 10 overs left, things might change, and we could win. But India did really well in making a big score and bowling."
Mitchell praised Mohammed Shami from the Indian team for playing really well. When asked if he could have helped more if he hadn't got cramps, he smiled and said, "There were many things, not just cramps, that made it hard for us to win. When a team scores a lot of runs first, it's tough to chase."
During the match, New Zealand lost some early players, but when Williamson and Mitchell were playing, they had hope. Mitchell said, "We encouraged each other and tried to set small goals. We felt we were doing well. But it was tough because of the used pitch."
Even after Williamson got out, Mitchell tried his best. He was happy about scoring a lot in a previous match against India. Though things didn't work out in the end, he was glad about his two great scores against India in one tournament.
He wants to help his team and enjoys playing against India. He knows that in cricket, some days are good, and some aren't, and today wasn't good for their team.
Mitchell doesn't want to talk about what might happen to cricket's future but enjoys playing all kinds of cricket. He has scored a lot in the World Cup matches and wants to keep playing for New Zealand for a long time.
